Can't we KEEP this from happening? We need these slightly used clothes and this should start with the MAKER of the clothes, NOT gently used! OR resale shop.
Remember elected officials....we expect you to use "common sense" when you pass laws and do your best to identify and address any "unintended consequences" of your actions.
When is this Progressive/Socialist maddness going to stop? Christmas is for children and children less fortunate being denied toys is beyond sad. America we need to TAKE THESE FAR NON CHRISTIAN LOSER OUT!
PLEASE REVIEW THIS NEW LAW AND IT'S INTENT. IT'S TOO GENERIC IN IT'S MEANING AND GOING TO AFFECT THOUSANDS OF KID'S RESALE SHOPS AND EVEN MORE PEOPLE TRYING TO CLOTHE THEIR CHILDREN INEXPENSIVELY. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH THE ITEMS ALREADY IN EXISTENCE?
How's come no one was worried about this before. Generations have been brought up wearing hand me downs and playing with toys and no one I know of has had any problems. Our son is 4 We buy toys and clothing at consignments and goodwill stores cause we cannot afford alot of things. Maybe it's the parents that don't pay atteneion to there kids that put things in there mouths shouldn't buy the toys and clothing my son never stuck anything in his mouth and he's 4. What's next taking keys off us cause I always see parents letting there kid's put there car keys and house keys in there mouth's. If we don't teach our kid's from the beginning and let them do whatever they are going to do it.
I work for a TV station, so I know that you get massive "chain" letters, however, this bill is going to kill an already weakened economy. So while the bottom of this is similair to what you may have been getting, the top portion reflects my feelings on this ridiculous law in my own words.
I am a mother of 3 and grandmother of 1, if I weren't able to purchase gently used items and resell gently used items my kids have outgrown, It would put me in a very dire circumstance.
And to think of the hundreds of thousands of people that would lose their business and jobs if this bill passes as is, saddens me.
In these already turbulent economic times this is simply cruel. And it would also put our unemployment and welfare systems under a bigger burden than they currently are now. These people are making a living and supporting their families as well as employing others and helping them do the same, while offering cash strapped parents a way to provide clothing for their kids while leaving enough left over to purchase food at todays astronomical prices.
You perhaps hadn't considered the catastrophic financial burdens and joblessness that you would be thrusting upon so many of us that depend on buying and selling used clothing.
And to basically ban handmade items (since the wouldn't be able to afford the ludicrous testing) is simply UN-AMERICAN. I'm sure many of you were in hand me down clothing and unique hand made bonnets and christening gowns in your family's photo albums, are you any worse for the wear?
This is ridiculous and the law fails to address the real sources of lead poisoning among children in the US - improve enforcement of our laws regarding imports first!
Just today a met a toddler who was undergoing treatment for lead poisoning - not from domestic toys, but because of a piece of furniture bought at Pier One Imports!
This law MUST be amended...items which are inherently lead free should be excluded. Also, the law should be changed to products for children 5 years old and younger...most 12 year olds don't lick their bike tires or suck on their clothes!
Please stop the insanity that is the current CPSIA legislation. This legislation will be the final nail in the coffin of our economy if allowed to go into full affect as is. Ammend it so that it does not hurt small businesses, thrift stores, poor families, WAH moms and dads, and stops the destruction of books!
Please think about small business and work at home mothers before catering to big business. Small business is the backbone of the economy. All the new laws, new taxes, etc. will harm those that work the hardest to grow an honest business. Big business can absorb the costs of all the silly new tests and triumph over their competitors. Not a law with the best interest of the American people in mind.
