this is crazy! So many families cannot afford to buy new clothes for their children & the goodwill is a great way to get your children slightly worn clothes at cheap prices.
Our children are already educationally behind most of the rest of the world and now you want to take books away from them. How do you expect the younger generation to compete with the rest of the world if they cannot get or touch books. Are you really going to allow children to be banned from libraries? Are you going to allow books to be thrown out or burned? I thought that this country had come out of the dark ages and the book burning days, guess I was wrong.
Don't you think that our economy is bad enough without adding even more bankruptcies and further price increases on retail products. A large percentage of the population in this country are already financially suffering. This type of legislation will only further increase suffering of families and put more families into poverty levels, thus further increasing their need for government support. So in the long run, this type of legislation is also going to cost the taxpayers and government more money also. Didn't anyone research the effects of this type of legislation or has our government decided to completely ignore the economic plight that the citizens of this country are currently enduring? Maybe it is time that we started voting out government officials who appear to have lost touch with the realities of how much the citizens of this country are suffering and elect officials that truly care about all of us, not just a few of us.
Buying second-hand clothing for my children enables me to dress them well on a very limited budget. I don't know what I would do it I couldn't do this.
This bill must be amended as it was poorly written and doesn't address how smaller companies can afford to deal with issues such as paint testing. Instead, require that hte manufacturers who sell dyes to actually test those paints! Also, create a list of natural ingredients that are not to be tested. It's silly that I can't take clay from Tennessee, dip a t-shirt without doing a $30,000 test to prove the silly thing is safe! We're already in trouble without this sort of legislation. Fix it before I vote you all out of office.
I live in a very small rural town in Kentucky. Many of our families live on welfare and more and more are forced into the welfare system due to layoffs and closing of local businesses. These families don't have money for the necessary basics such as food or rent and they definately don't have money to purchase new clothing for their growing children. Where will these families go for clothing for their children?
Where will they go for toys, books, etc. for their children? Is there a government program that is going to provide money monthly for the low income families to purchase necessary "new" clothing since they can't buy used? If not, where will these families get socks, shorts, tops, sweatshirts, pants, jeans, coats, etc. These items are not luxury items they are a necessity!!!!
Please take into consideration the vast amount of families that are unemployed, disabled, in poverty and are just doing their best to just put a roof over their families heads and food in their belly by helping them get AFFORDABLE used clothing for their children to wear!!!!
When my children were younger they wore clothing from yardsales, hand me downs, goodwill, and thrift stores-heck, they still do.
I have several children in my family that I help buy used clothing from yardsales and thrift stores because their parents can not afford any clothing-not even used clothing- because they have lost their jobs due to the economy. I know there are many more in the US in this same situation and they are looking for help with their economic problems from the US government, not a slap in the face and kick in the teeth.
Please do what you can to allow used childrens clothing, books, toys to be resold.
Thank you.
This law is destroying many business owners, hurting families who need to shop in second-hand stores and will simply create even bigger landfills all for a chance to get a few items out of circulation. Many items with lead will still be out there. You must let us, as parents, assume personal responsibility for the safety of our children. I admire the law for preventing future items from being filled with lead but, for now, let us use what we have out there.
This is absolutely obsurd! You let these items be sold imported and/or sold already in this country once...if you are so concerned about this testing being done do your jobs the first time! This will only negatively effect our hard working families and small businesses and help large corporate monopolies like Walmart who DO NOT offer and equivalent solution to are blue collar families!!! Please stop this nonsense!! Our citizens need options like this available to them!!
